Drama

Inspector Bellamy (2009) ***

Chabrol created a character that has a seemingly complex life, with a brother that appears his evil alter ego, a wife he loves monogamously or maybe just have an obsession with her breasts, and a life that feel purposeless. The plot gets resolved very quickly and is quite corny.

127 Hours (2010) ****

A perfect 4 star this film is not, but closer to 4 than 3 stars it is. 127 Hours is a worthy film, superbly acted and capably directed, featuring a story that will resonate with you long after you leave the theater.

Fair Game (2010) ****

Fair Game is a film that covers a multitude of issues, and does so fairly effectively, in its 100 minutes or so of screen time. All in all it is an intelligent film worth watching.

Unstoppable (2010) ****

Adrenaline runs high in Unstoppable, a well-paced action movie, “inspired by true events”. Well performed by a talented group of actors - led by Denzel Washington, Chris Pine and Rosario Dawson, to mention a few, Tony Scott, the director, moves the film at an increasing pace, through well-chosen visuals, sounds effects and music.

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest (Sweden 2009, USA 2010) ***

Less engaging than the first film but an improvement over the second one, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest, delivers several intense scenes. Exceptionally played by Noomi Rapace as the title character Lisbeth, with good supporting performances by several characters, including a late new comer to the film series Annika Hallin in the role of Lisbeth’s attorney, the 2.5 hours long film seems to aim at satisfying the audience rather than deliver deeper layers.

Nowhere Boy (UK 2009, USA 2010) ***

It is intriguing to observe the growth of a young person into a personality. How and why we become who we are, has never easy answers. Nowhere Boy wisely avoids asking such questions, especially given that it deals with a persona that is John Lennon. The film rather focuses on staging a critical time in Lennon’s life – his mid teens, a time of great changes, when the boy becomes a man.
