Walking the Camino: Six Ways to Santiago (2013) ****

Walking the Camino: Six Ways to Santiago (2013) ****

Walking the Camino: Six Ways to Santiago, is a heartwarming documentary by Lydia Smith. It is the sort of film that moves slowly and grows on you as you get to know the various protagonists -- pilgrims on the ancient Camino de Santiago trail. Some will find answers, other peace, but all just by the mere walk would, one way or another, get transformed.

Cloud Atlas (2012) **

Cloud Atlas (2012) **

Have you ever sunk your teeth into a piece of cake that looked visually delicious, only to discover it has no real substance? Generally speaking, this would describe the Cloud Atlas experience, another empty Wachowskis (formerly known as the Wachowski Brothers) extravaganza. Some audiences felt there is more substance to Cloud Atlas than meets the eye on first seeing the film. I would recommend you try reading the novel instead.

Life of Pi (2012) *****

Trust Ang Lee to take a mystical magical story such as Life of Pi, and turn it into an enchanting screen experience. It is simply superb. I admit I had high expectations, and am glad to report I was not disappointed! It is rare I give a film five-star rating, this one gets it.

I Am (2011) ****

What’s Wrong With the World? and What Can We Do About It? The resulting documentary combines Shadyac’s personal story with interviews with scientists, religious leaders, environmentalists and philosophers.

Kumaré (2012) *****

Provocative, insightful, funny and touching, Kumaré is anything but a Borat wanna-be. Documentary filmmaker Vikram Gandhi reaches deeper than he originally intended, when setting up to explore the guru-disciple relationship with respect to religion.
