Iron Man 2 (2010) **

Iron Man 2 aims at practically nothing, a surprise when it comes to the amount of firepower featured in the film. But then again, maybe it’s trying to follow as a motto a line delivered by a sub-character on the villain side in the movie, who bluntly states that bigger is better...

City Island (2009) ****

This film felt to me like a very well made soap-opera. This is not to say that it was not entertaining or engaging, on the contrary, it was, but in a soapy sort of way… It tells the story of a “normal”, blue-color, highly dysfunctional family, each of its members with secrets that can keep a TV soap running for a full season… But it does it with a lot of charm, excellent acting (Alan Arkin in a side role is always a wonderful bonus), and a crescendo ending, that leaves you half crying half laughing...

V for Vendetta (2005) ***

Natalie Portman, Hugo Weaving, Stephen Rea and John Hurt do their best but cannot save this film. Despite some nice moments, good lines, and a source that can be inspiring, this film does not rise to the occasion.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Sweden, 2009) ****

Gripping, intriguing, plausible, and even, to a point, redeeming. The casting is terrific, the ending is gratifying yet leaves a taste for more. It’s a close 5-star in my scale.

Kick-Ass (2010) ****

Kick-Ass is pure entertainment. Its bloody and vulgar at times, which is usually not my cup of tea, but when presented in the right context, (screen) violence can be fun... It successfully marries comics, action and comedy, to form one hell of an engaging film.

Anatomy of a Murder (1959) *****

A classic court-drama that stands the test of time and proves to be as engaging today, even in its 2 hours and 40 minutes format, as it may have been over 50 years ago.
