Romance

The Gods Must Be Crazy (South Africa, 1980) *****

This film has just about everything right – a smart story made of 4 plots that intertwine into one adventure, a touch of an educational documentary about wild-life in Africa, social and environmental commentary with a political flair, some romance and plenty of native charm... If you’ve never seen this film, you are in for a treat. If you’ve seen it and don’t remember, it means it’s been too long and you should take it out again...

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010) **

Form without content, this film is more concerned with being inventive (which it is), original (which is it) and stylish, than with telling a compelling story, or having characters with minimal depth... The film tries to marry comics, video games, music, martial arts style fights, and a love triangle, amongst other topics, into one tasteless salad.

Wedding Crashers (2005) ***

...is actually a crude charmer of a romantic comedy. If you are in the mood for a romantic comedy that will satisfy most guys and their dates as well (or vs. verse), this is a good choice.

Stardust (2007) *****

Sometimes all the elements come together and magic is created; magic fairytales are made of. The story is witty, heart-warming, and plain simply delightful, one that immediately becomes a classic.

The Bounty Hunter (2010) *

Aniston plays her own misreable self, and Butler, who is capable of much more, is given a stupid streotype role in a plot that is formulatic and stale. What a waste.

Dinner for Schmucks (2010) ***

‘Dinner for Schmucks’ serves a tasty first course but fails to deliver a satisfying main dish. Still, if you are looking for mindless laughs, and can settle for a dessert, the film is enjoyable.
