Robin Hood (2010) **

If you decide to watch this flick, rest assured you will be entertained. RidelyScott is a skilled filmmaker who knows how to move a plot and keep the audience engaged. Yet, when it is all said and done, you may ask yourself, why? Why Robin Hood? Why deform a perfectly good classic?

City Island (2009) ****

This film felt to me like a very well made soap-opera. This is not to say that it was not entertaining or engaging, on the contrary, it was, but in a soapy sort of way… It tells the story of a “normal”, blue-color, highly dysfunctional family, each of its members with secrets that can keep a TV soap running for a full season… But it does it with a lot of charm, excellent acting (Alan Arkin in a side role is always a wonderful bonus), and a crescendo ending, that leaves you half crying half laughing...

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Sweden, 2009) ****

Gripping, intriguing, plausible, and even, to a point, redeeming. The casting is terrific, the ending is gratifying yet leaves a taste for more. It’s a close 5-star in my scale.

Anatomy of a Murder (1959) *****

A classic court-drama that stands the test of time and proves to be as engaging today, even in its 2 hours and 40 minutes format, as it may have been over 50 years ago.

The Darjeeling Limited (2007) ***

What works for this film is first and foremost its backdrop scenery of India – places, people and culture. Anderson manages to bring some of it to the screen in a convincible way and that’s a treat. But overall, despite the obvious conclusion of the brothers coming together, I was left with a “so what?!” feeling.

Across The Universe (2007) ***

A milder version of Hair, Across the Universe is not going all the way, as Hair did but rather resembles more a long music video. And as so far as music videos go, some parts are very creative while others are mediocre.
