Thor: The Dark World (2013) ***

As far as Comics based films go, Thor: The Dark World is of mythological proportions; it is at once both grandeur and familiar, well-paced yet lacking in coherence. The film does a good job in balancing humor with action, silliness with romance, all the while struggling to keep a half-decent plotline. Yet, it is engaging and lots of fun. Look not for logic and you will be highly entertained.

Iron Man 3 (2013) ***

An early installment to this summer's blockbusters, Iron Man 3 delivers plenty of action, even if not much substance. This sequel to Iron Man 2, directed by Shane Black to a screenplay he co-wrote with Drew Pearce, makes some attempts at a changed Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, but fails with creating believable motivation for the film’s villain.

The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) **

This lame reboot attempt of the Spiderman franchise should have been named Spider-dude versus Godzilla. Despite occasional very creative and imaginative moments, The Amazing Spider-Man fails to impress, let alone amaze.

The Avengers (2012) ***

Ultimately this 143 min long flick is uneven. It delivers action and entertainment and for the most part is quite engaging. Yet something is amiss.

X-Men: First Class (2011) ****

This prequel to the X-Men series is intense, engaging and entertaining. For a film that runs over 130 min, it felt like half that running, a sure sign for good filmmaking.

Thor (2011) ***

No doubt Thor, the movie, has an entertainment value, including occasional sharp dialogues, cool action scenes and plentiful of special effects. But for a good portion of the movie, it’s nothing to marvel the home planet about...
