It was co-written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, with story credits going to McQuarrie and Drew Pearce. Spy (2015) ***

Spy (2015) ***

Spy by writer-director Paul Feig is an amusing parody that will make you laugh, and then laugh some more. Yet it will be all but forgotten the morning after; thus while a good comedy, Spy is not a memorable one. A fun fluffy flick for a pleasant afternoon at the movies; nothing more, nothing less.

Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) ****

Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) ****

Mad Max is back and it’s a blast! Thirty years after George Miller originally conceived the first film in what had become a franchise, that same filmmaker manages to reboot the series, and quite magnificently. As with its predecessor installments, Mad Max presents a dystopian, post-apocalyptic world, where savagery supersedes most other human qualities. While the earlier series in which Mel Gibson played the lead rule was focused mostly on necessities such as oil and water, Miller wisely selects to point his brain-child at a different direction.

Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) ***

Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) ***

Avengers: Age of Ultron could have been a much more interesting film if Whedon would have actually followed through on the opening theme of film: Tony Stark, ignoring his friends’ advice and listening only to his inflated ego, deciding to play the role of God. But the plot quickly turns onto the usual explosions, special effects and fighting scenes, aimed at pleasing the audience and thus increasing the popcorn consumption of the enthusiastic moviegoers. Much like the empty calories of the Diet Coke that shamelessly escorts the Silver Screen’s snacks, Avengers: Age of Ultron is quickly forgotten. Consider it a preview for typical mid-Summer entertainment.

Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014) ***

Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014) ***

Kingsman is a spy-hero action-comedy, directed by Matthew Vaughn to a screenplay by Vaughn and Jane Goldman. I confess that when the Kingsman’s previews were playing at theaters, months prior to the movie’s release, I was skeptic as to seeing it. Though the coming attractions were amusing, I did not fathom I would much enjoy this production. Coming with very low expectations, Kingsman was a pleasant surprise. If you feel like tasting a summer movie regardless of the weather outside, Kingsman is a good choice.

American Sniper (2014) ***

American Sniper (2014) ***

American Sniper is a biopic war movie, directed and co-produced by Clint Eastwood to a screenplay written by Jason Hall. It tells the story of Chris Kyle who claimed 255 kills, 160 of which officially confirmed by the Department of Defense, is considered the deadliest U.S. military marksman in recorded history. He was killed at the age of 38, at a gun range, while trying to assist another veteran suffering from PTSD. Hundreds and possibly thousands of people lined up along the funeral procession to honor him.
