A romantic comedy written and directed by Woody Allen, Midnight in Paris will appeal to Allen’s fans while leaving others somewhere in between a yawn and moments of intrigue. Owen Wilson plays Allen’s alter ego to perfection, both in terms of character and endless blabber. The rest of the cast, including a delightful (as usual) Kathy Bates as Gertrude Stein, do, for the most part, their best to avoid playing a cliché. The story itself has good elements going for it, yet, the theme was better summarized by my aunt Francis who once told me: I never say the good old days; the good old days are now. You can trust Woody Allen to take a 100 minutes to reach the same conclusion.
