Written and directed by Daniel Burman, The Tenth Man is a low-budget Argentine film. It follows the homecoming of a son that spent years in New York, arriving back at the cradle of his Jewish-Argentinian community in Buenos Aires. Cast includes Alan Sabbagh , Julieta Zylberberg, Elvira Onetto, Elisa Carricajo, Adrián Stoppelman and Dan Breitman.
While The Tenth Man feels like a low-budget indie film, with plot elements that somehow come together to tell a story most members of the audience will grasp already half-way through the film, it does have moments of charm, a heart and a sense of intimacy. But more than anything, this film opens a door to a world unknown to most of us -- a micro-cosmos; a community that runs by its own set of rules and traditions.
The acting feels authentic, and even if the pace requires some patience on occasion, it is a curiosity to watch, especially for viewers with interest in other cultures.
