As far as Comics based films go, Thor: The Dark World is of mythological proportions; it is at once both grandeur and familiar, well-paced yet lacking in coherence. This second installment in the Thor franchise was produced by Marvel Studios and directed by Alan Taylor to a screenplay by Christopher Yost, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. The cast includes Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins, all reprising their roles from the first Thor installment, plus a few newcomers.
Watching Thor: The Dark World, a film that combines old style sword fighting ala Vikings style, with futuristic laser guns and spaceships taken directly from Star Wars, I was struck with a sense that the Gods too are keeping up with the times; moving on for heavier Sci-Fi weapons of mass destruction. It seems traditional lighting and thunder no longer do the trick in impressing the natives of planet Earth. May we expect the Nordic Gods, come the next Thor installment, to completely catch up and use social media tools? After all, these deities do not wish to be left behind... But I am digressing. Thor: The Dark World does a good job in balancing humor with action, silliness with romance, all the while struggling to keep a half-decent plotline. Yet, it is engaging and lots of fun. Look not for logic and you will be highly entertained.
