This lame reboot attempt of the Spiderman franchise should have been named Spider-dude versus Godzilla. Despite occasional very creative and imaginative moments, The Amazing Spider-Man fails to impress, let alone amaze. It does not come close to the level achieved by the Sam Raimi 2002 through 2007 Spiderman trilogy (Tobey Maguire in the lead role). Raimi’s and Tobey’s Spiderman introduced a character that went through metamorphosis, that fought inner demons, that had width and depth. Marc Webb’s new spider-movie seems like a cheap shot on behalf of Marvel Comics to continue capitalizing on one of their strongest brand characters. It suffers from a weak storyline, poor character development and mediocre directions, leaving the heavy lifting to the special effects department – not particularly a good idea. Save time and money, rent again the Raimi Spiderman trilogy; even if you have seen it before, it provides for much better entertainment.
