Father Of My Children (Le père de mes enfants, France, 2009) *****

Father of my ChildrenThis film will either move you deeply or make you yawn. If of the later, it means nothing less of you, other than that you did not relate to the characters or situations portrayed in this story, and this may actually be a good thing for you.
Either way I believe anyone seeing this film will agree it’s an honest movie. And by honest I mean to say it does not only feel real (both in terms of story and acting), but it also carries a rare sense of sincerity about it.
As to the plot – it is hard to discuss without spoiling the film experience. I will only say that the film does start in a somewhat slow pace, as it needs to take time and lure us into the lives of the characters, understand, and even possibly identify, with the situations, without which the story will lose its effectiveness. For me it was a worthy wait.
What I do dare say without spoiling anything, is that, metaphorically speaking, if our lives can be compared to a splash a stone makes when it hits the water, this film is about capturing the resulting ripples, once the stone can no longer be seen.
