Salt (2010) ***

SaltSalt is a poor attempt at creating a new Bourne-like franchise, while reviving, without credibility, an old-made-new cold-war theme. If it was not for Angelina Jolie, who is, as usual, super sexy while effortlessly portraying female warrior characters, the film would have flopped completely; but Jolie manages to keep it afloat. And to think that the film was originally written for a male character...
In terms of plot, it would have been much more credible if it was another chapter in the Lara Croft series, but trying to set it in a real-like world, just makes it look, for lack of a better word, stupid. What could have been a smart spy thriller that keeps the audience guessing Salt’s loyalty, is nothing more but another summer action flick with lots of explosions, chases, and shooting. If you are looking for brainless summer entertainment and don’t mind your intelligence being inSALTed, you may enjoy this film. It really deserve no more than 2 stars but given Jolie’s performance – I am a fan – it gets one extra star...
