Limitless (2011) ***

LimitlessLimitless is one of those movies that is disappointing in its potential to be so much more. This is not to say that it is not a decent and entertaining movie; yet, with its intriguing subject matter, charismatic cast, capable director and inventive crew, it’s a miss. Regardless of the scientific accuracy of claims made about usage of the brain, we are all born into a sort of an envelope. What would have happened if we could maximize our potential? While the answers can be limitless, the script, based on the 2001 novel The Dark Fields by Alan Glynn, turns out to be quite conventional, lacking the ingenuity of the initial idea. Luckily the cast, led by a shining Bradley Cooper, with Abbie Cornish and Robert De Niro in strong supporting roles, and guided by director Neil Burger, salvage the plot, making it entertaining and engaging. Kudos also the cinematography and visual effects, used well within context throughout the film.
