Everyone wants to win, but what winning means to different people is the more subtle subject this charmer of a film sets to explore. Confidently directed by Thomas McCarthy, based on a story written by Joe Tiboni and Thomas McCarthy, Win Win stars an excellent Paul Giamatti, supported by Amy Ryan, Alex Shaffer, Bobby Cannavale and Jeffrey Tambor. The plot is quite classic in structure (not a bad thing) but the colorful characters and good balance of agony and humor, sets Win Win apart. The film does suffer from a bit of a slow start, and some of the characters are a little too one-dimensional, but all in all Win Win is a compelling film that will leave you feeling good, and not in a Hollywood sort of way.
